Central Asian Migrant Voices Heard "Around the World"

Radio stations in Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic were among stations in more than 27 countries worldwide participating in the first global radio marathon to mark 18 December, International Migrants' Day.

Radio Umax 101.2 FM, Shymkent, Kazakhstan and Radio Volna Issyk Kul 101.8 FM, Karakol, Kyrgyz Republic joined radio stations around the globe to provide information and programming addressing migration issues as part of the seventh International Migrants' Day. In Shymkent, Radio Umax broadcasted throughout the day contact information for migrants in need of assistance. Radio Volna Issyk Kul hosted a live interview with a representative of a public organization that assists labour migrants in the region.

The radio marathon is an initiative of December 18, an online organization whose mission is to promote and protect the rights of migrants with dignity and respect as basic human values.
