Central Asian Scriptwriting Lab (CASL)
Introduction of Trainers

As part of the Central Asian Scriptwriting Lab (CASL) the project trainers will prepare 24 young scriptwriters from Central Asia for the pitching, which will take place in autumn 2021. This capacity-building initiative for local film professionals is implemented by the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office within the framework of the project "Strengthening the Film Industry in Central Asia" supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea.

Dzhumakmatova Erke. Producer, scriptwriter, actress and filmmaker. More than 20 years of experience in the film industry of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, as a TV presenter, actress, executive and creative producer, scriptwriter for documentary, feature and commissioned films and manager of international projects. Member of the Board of the Union of Cinematographers of Kyrgyzstan. Deputy chairperson of the Producers Guild of Kyrgyzstan. Founder and head of the "Oimo Studio" production company. Producer of nominated and participating films of such international film festivals as: Shanghai, Golden Globe Awards, Asian World Film Festival, Filmfest Dresden, Goteborg, Al Jazeera, HÕFF, HANIFF, Kinoshok, Zolotoy Vityaz, Eurasia, Didor, Kyrgyzstan Land of Short Films, Ak-Ilbirs National Cinema Awards and others. Participant of international workshops for producers and scriptwriters in Germany, France, Estonia and Russia.

Ismailova Saodat graduated from the Tashkent State Institute of Arts and the French National Studio for Contemporary Art "Le Fresnoy" (2018), where she made the films entitled "Whisper Ox" and "Two Horizons". She has participated in the "Fabrica" Art Residency of the Centre for Research and Communication in Benetton, Italy; the DAAD Art Residency in Berlin, Germany (2005); and the OCA Art Residency of the Office for Contemporary Arts in Oslo, Norway (2017). Her films and art works include "Aral: Fishing in an Invisible Sea", which won Best Documentary at the 2004 Turin Film Festival; the video installation "Zuhra", which participated in the Venice Biennale 2013 at the Central Asian Pavilion; "40 Days of Silence", which was premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2014; the film essay "Enchanted", which premiered at the CPH:DOX International Film Festival in 2017. She is currently directing the CCA LAB of the Centre for Contemporary Art in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She is working on her second feature film "Barazg".IMDb

Levitskaya Juliya. Scriptwriter, producer and cinema artist. Before 2003, she worked in her first profession - architecture, design and contemporary art. From 2003 to 2010 she worked at the "Kazakhfilm named after Sh. Aimanov" Film Studio as an artistic director and costume designer. Since 2010 to date, she is a producer at her own studio "ARTDEPARTMENT.KZ", which specializes in independent and genre films, as well as special makeup and special effects (FX Makeup & Practical Effects). From 2014 to 2017, creator and head of the Extra Short Film Workshop. From 2018 to date, co-founder and co-organiser of the "Concept" local project market.

Popov Dmitri was born in Moscow in 1963. After graduating from the Faculty of Scriptwriting and Film Studies at VGIK, he worked at Mosfilm Studios, in the editorial offices of "Cinema Art" and "Ogoniok" magazines, and at the Russian Service of Radio Liberty. In 1991 he moved to Germany. After graduating from the University of Television and Film (HFF) in Munich he was engaged in commercials, shooting and film producing, and worked at the German Film Export Association and in the editorial office of "Focus" magazine. In 2007, he founded together with Alla Churikova the "Allanimation" animation studio. Since 2011, lecturer, and, since 2016, Professor of Media Design at Hochschule Fresenius University in Munich. Dean of Motion Design & Management (BA) and Medien- und Kommunikationsmanagement (BA) Departments.

Uzmonov Iskandar is a screenwriter, filmmaker and film producer. Member of the Union of Cinematographers of the Republic of Tajikistan, honorary member of the Union of Cinematographers of the Kyrgyz Republic, member of the Union of Journalists of the Republic of Tajikistan, member of the International Confederation of the Union of Journalists of the CIS and Baltic countries. He graduated from Tajik State University, Department of Russian Philology, and in 2003 completed a summer school of journalism in Kalmar, Sweden. In 2005 he took a special school of PR and advertising at St. Petersburg State University (Russia); participated in courses on the directing of feature films at the Union of Cinematographers of the Republic of Tajikistan (workshop of Anvar Turayev). In 2008, attended the First International Film School at the International Confederation of the Union of Cinematographers of the CIS and Baltic countries (Russia, Moscow). In 2011, graduated from the Asian Film Academy in Pusan, South Korea, in feature film directing and production (class of Krzysztof Zanussi). He has made more than 25 films as a director and scriptwriter. Participant and winner of international film festivals. Awarded an honorary diploma of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan for his contribution to the development of the national cinematography. He is an Honorary Culture Worker of the Republic of Tajikistan.
