On 7 April 2017 the UNESCO Chair in International Journalism and Media in the Society of KazNU with the support of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty conducted the II International Scientific and Practical Conference (MTIJ) dedicated to the standards of teaching of international journalism. More than 60 representatives of universities, NGOs and journalists and communication professionals presented their ideas and reports.
The conference has become a quality platform for applying high standards of education, organizing dialogue and interaction between the academic community of different countries and international organizations for sustainable development.
OSCE Programme Office in Astana, the Media Program of the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan, the International Foundation for the Protection of Freedom of Speech "Adil Soz", the International Journalism Center MediaNet and the "Fund for Turkish Speaking Journalists" took an active part in the conference.
Taking into consideration the UN Sustainable Development Goals and KazNU as the UN Academic Impact Hub, the academic association of experts is required to apply the UNESCO Curricula for future journalists
The recommendation of the participants of II conference (MTIJ)
The participants of the conference discussed the role of the media in providing of public access to information and observing the fundamental freedoms of citizens, including freedom of expression. These ideas are reflected in the sustainable development of SDG No 16. Goal 16 is dedicated to the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, the provision of access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable institutions at all levels.
Director of the UNESCO Almaty Office, Krista Pikkat handed certificates to the participants and delivered a closing speech, highlighting the role of quality journalism in peace and justice of Central Asian countries.
The conference is a part of large-scale actions of the academic system in celebration of the World Press Freedom Day of 2017. The conference was held in the framework of IV International Faraby Readings of KazNU.
