Initial Seminar on Open and Distance Learning (ODL) for 'multipliers'

An eight-day workshop, with the participation of highly qualified academic and non academic participants, who are involved in the educational system in Kazakhstan, will be held from the 18th to the 27th of October, 2004 at the Republican Scientific-Methodical Center of Information for Education in Kazakhstan (RCIE). The workshop is focused on building a cooperation and team between the local actors in distant education, train them in the use of ICT for education, and work together with them in an open source environment (Linux based Learning Management System Ilias) in order to build a first supporter and trainer group, to teach students and teachers in remote areas in the use of distance education, using local resources to improve the use of ICT for secondary schools in Asia

The use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in and for education is rapidly expanding in many countries, and is now seen worldwide as both a necessity and an opportunity. The Dakar Framework for Action (April 2000) identified the use of new information and communication technologies as one of the main strategies for achieving the EFA (Education for All) goals.
This pilot will run for one year and finalize the production of an own training concept for teachers in remote areas, including a self developed and produced CBT for Secondary Education.
