Scientists in Kazakhstan collaborating together via Virual Laboratories to solve environmental problems of Aral sea

The drying of the large inland Chad, Aral and Dead Seas is deemed as a global environmental catastrophe that adversely impacts the people lifestyle and social and economic development of the regions and destabilize the natural system functioning.

To solve the issue, scientists worldwide shall join their efforts to enable the information exchange. The Institute for Hydrogeology and Hydrophysics of the Kazakh Academy of Sciences proposed to establish a Consortium on the Aral Sea problem in Kazakhstan in the context of the UNESCO project - Virtual Laboratories for Studying of the Drying Lakes of Africa, Middle East and Central Asia. http://www.unesco.kz/vl/2003/kz_terra_en.html
