For the first time 7-day Workshop on manufacturing felt with traditional Tekemet technique will be held from 29 May to 5 June, 2016 for the rural women of Kazakhstani Aral region in Kyzylkaiyn village of Shieli rayon in Kyzylorda oblast, Kazakhstan in the house of local craftswoman - Zhansara Bolegenova.
Tekemet is the Kazakh felt carpet with inserted color pattern. Traditional Tekemet technique nominated as "Kiy³z basu - traditional art of manufacturing felt" included to the National Preliminary List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Kazakhstan

The project of the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, Executive Board of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in Kazakhstan (EB IFAS), Union of Artisans of Kazakhstan, UNDP in Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda oblast Akimat is an extension of a larger programme that started in 2015 for revival of the endangered Kazakh traditional techniques of manufacturing felt and for ensuring the transmission of the forms of traditional craftsmanship between
generations and to demonstrate the careful treatment to the nature of Kazakhstani Aral region.
The aim of the training is to transmit theoretical knowledge and practical skills to craftswomen in the field of felt products manufacturing with Tekemet technique using local and imported raw materials for production of required souvenirs for tourism purposes prior the EXPO-2017.
Ms. Aizhan Bekkulova, the Chairperson of the Union of Artisans of Kazakhstan and Vice-president of WCC-APR/Central Asia will lead the workshop. Local talented craftswomen – Umit Usenbayeva and Kultay Boranbayeva will also perform as the consultants to the workshop for women from Kyzylorda city and other five rayons of Kyzylorda oblast.
Tekemet/oyuly tekemet (cut pattern) is the Kazakh felt carpet/floor cover with with inserted color pattern. Traditional Tekemet technique nominated as "Kiy³z basu - traditional art of manufacturing felt" included to the National Preliminary List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
