April 15, 2014 UNESCO Representative in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan Sergey Lazarev met with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic H.E. Almazbek Atambayev and delivered the Certificate of inclusion of Kyrgyz epic trilogy "Manas. Semetei. Seytek" to the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.
Epic " Manas " is an encyclopedia of life, customs and culture of Kyrgyz people that in general expresses the national spirit, succession and inviolability of its values and traditions. "Kyrgyz people is proud of its spiritual richness and its contribution to the world culture," he said.

Sergey Lazarev noted that UNESCO understands the importance of the "Manas" epic for the people of Kyrgyzstan. "I am honored to be here and to hand over this certificate on behalf of the Director-General of UNESCO," he said. UNESCO representative also said that Kyrgyzstan has a positive trend when important historical milestones and events are considered as occasions for strengthening the nation’s unity.
In the first half of the day, Mr. Lazarev had a meeting with the President and members of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan. Lazarev reminded that for many centuries the epic "Manas" passed from generation to generation, gathering new legends, stories and became the most voluminous epic of those known to humanity today, as it employs more than a half of million lines.
"I am very glad that here, in Kyrgyzstan, we can observe an interaction between the state authorities, academics and NGOs, that have managed to bring up the epic on the international level, where the" Manas " received the greatest recognition," Mr. Lazarev said.
